My name is Ashley White and I am majoring in Liberal Studies
and I am working towards being bilingual in American Sign Language as well. I
have a Great Dane named Danger. I am 22 years old and work full time. I grew up in San Diego
County in a small town called Jamul. I went to preschool all the way till high
school with the same kids. My sophomore year of high school my family moved to
Rancho Penasquitos and I attend West View High School for that year but my
family missed Jamul so much that we moved back a year later and I finished high
school in Jamul at Steele Canyon High. I however, wanted to be back in civilization
so after I graduated I moved back to Rancho Penasquitos and attended Mira Costa College.
After getting my A.A. degree I came to Cal State and I am graduating in May.
On the technology continuum I feel that I am in the middle for technology. I
know my way around many different programs but I am really looking forward to
taking this class and learning even more. I think that everyone should know how
to use technology and because I want to be a teacher I want to incorporate many
different types of learning such as media based and other types that will teach
the children not only how to use technology but how to enjoy and learn from
their experiences as well.
College of Education Mission Statement:
The mission of the College of
Education community is to collaboratively transform public education by preparing thoughtful educators
and advancing professional practices. We are committed to diversity, educational equity, and
social justice, exemplified through reflective teaching, life-long learning, innovative research, and
ongoing service. Our practices demonstrate a commitment to student-centered education,
diversity, collaboration, professionalism, and shared governance.
(Adopted by the COE Governance
Community October, 1997)
Personally this is the first time
I ever read the CSUSM mission statement. I wanted to go to this school because
I knew it had a good teaching program and also that it was a newer and smaller
school compared to other schools in San Diego. When looking at the mission
statement I feel that “transform public education by preparing thoughtful educators
and advancing professional practices” is a true statement. The majority of the professors
that I have had at CSUSM have gone out of their way to help and even take the
time to not only learn my name but my interests and give me guidance for my
future. Even the staff here is always willing to help and lend a hand as long as
you as a student are willing to try your best.
Your Dog is Awesome!!
ReplyDeleteI am currently sitting next to you. Is that creepy? It's like texting someone whose in the same room as you.
ReplyDeleteI am also into sign language...I have taken 5 1/2 years of ASL all togther, but I am probably nowhere near as fluent as you are!
I am looking forward to being your classmate, and perhaps sign language buddy, if you're willing to put up with my errors!
hello, We should so sign to each during class! I want to partake:)
DeleteI like what you said about the COE mission statement. I also think that they go out of their way to help the students find what they need; I have gotten help multiple times that has far exceeded what I was expecting. Congrats on graduating!! and Best of luck in the credential program!
ReplyDeleteAmerican Sign Language is such a great language! Do you think that culture funny as well? What did you get your A.A. in?
ReplyDeleteSo Ashley you are going to be my new best friend!!! I have taken 2 years of ASL a few years back and when I transferred here they let me know I had to take 3 years to graduate! I am taking my 3rd year of ASL this summer and I definitely need to practice with someone. If you are ever available on Mondays or Wednesdays let me know!
ReplyDelete-Mandie
I would love to sign with everyone, practice is the only way to get better!!!! :)
ReplyDeleteI so admire your ASL abilities! I wish I had the patience to learn how to sign. Instead, I'll just be amazed at what I see others do.
ReplyDeleteI also like your passion to help kids in school by going the extra mile. I have had plenty of teachers in the past who have gone out of their way for me, but then I have also seen other students who wished their teachers would give them time and attention. Kudos to you!
